View Full Version : Strike Freedom MsIA quick overview and paintjob

I am sure many of you out there are not fans of the MsIA series, but when I saw Strike Freedom in action for the first time in GSD, I knew I had to get one. I ordered it right when it came into stock from HLJ. I was surprised at how small it was, because the previous figures I have owned (UC series) were larger. However, it is very detailed for its size. Unfortunately, the DRAGOON parts do not disconnect from the wings because the figure itself is too small. As wih most figures I get (the exception being my Gundam Fix Figuration series) I paint (using airbrush, etc). I'll paint them tomorrow. As for now, here are some pictures with no modifications done to them.

No offense but the proportions, especially legs, suck.

That looks like shit. No offense. Also post it in the models section.

First off MSIA are NOT models they are prebuilt action figures that come with numerous accessories. So this does not belong in the model section. However it should be a more generic section of its own to include all MSIA figures.

Bah it's almost the same as models. Don't be so picky. There has been MSIA figures in the model section before. It is a waste of good forum space to make a whole new topic about MSIA figures.

Alright, I'm 80% done with the repaint of the figure itself. As for the proportions of the leg, it's fairly correct. If you look at the HG 1/144 SF model kit, the legs also legs are also the same proportion to the body as the MsIA version. I'll get more picturs up when I'm finished. I can rename this topic to "MsIAs Gallery" if others wish to post pictures of their figures.

Edit: I'm some what finished with it. I painted the whole body and added weathering effects for a "worn and burnt" look. This by far is one of the most challenging figures I have ever painted before because if its small size and the many colors it has. I deleted some of the older pics. New pics below.

Awsome job. I'd be scared to see what you'd do to a Perfect Grade kit, it might look real.

lol, thanks guys. The paintjob sure isn't perfect, but it was really really hard to paint because of its really small size. I have pics of my PG 1/60 Wing Zero Custom (which was much easier to paint) up in the models section.

no offense but it sorta looks crappier, i think you put too much of those "worn and burnt" stuff on, but nice job on the black outlines though

I'm mostly done now. I added some weathering effects (worn "metal" silver look) to the chest, knees, feet, and wings. I also cleaned up a little on the "burnt" effects on the knee thruster. In order to see the changes, you might have to look a little closer to the pictures.

Nice painting skills, but the proportions still suck. If bandai wants to have more kit sales they must hire better scale engineers. *Sigh* if only Hajime-sama made the designs in Seed/seed destiny, thier kit sale would have probably 30% better.

Oh yea, Katoki's designs are by far my favorite. His design seem more mechanical. That's why I have a few GFF figures. He designed quite a few of the 0083 Mobile suits (the GMs mostly), and they're my favorite "grunt" type suits.

Then make that clear, i can't read minds. If you qoute someone and agree with them say something along the lines of "i also think it looks like shit without paint" or "i agree" then proceed to say that it doesn't look like shit after the painjob when you've made clear that you agree with the post you qouted. Normally you qoute a post to answer it.

comon, you've dragged a small quoting into a huge arguement...we could end this with a "your both right" or a "your both wrong" pick 1 and get over with it.

nice job painting, it really looks good now (not to say at first it was like shit) but there is really a HUGE improvement, did you say that was HG?

do you think you could get some shots with hsi guns all folded out like he does whenever its a 1/100 match for him?

oh and i'm not sure if a HG's model can do this but, can you pull off the dragoons?

Sano
Mon, 08-22-2005, 03:33 PM
Thanks for the comment. Chaoskiddo, this is not a HG 1/144 kit. This is a MsIA figure I painted, and it's a lot smaller than the 1/144 HG kits.

Thanks for the comment. It did take a long time because it was hard painting the details on a figure as small this MSiA Strike Freedom. Working on and off, I think it took about 4-5 hours. Making the decals only took about 15-20 minutes.

Im gonna get that cosmic region SF for sure!!! I love their gundams. I already got their Exs/S Gundam, Hyaku-Shiki, and Freedom and they all looked great xcept Freedom's wings are a bit too small...But the amount of details on those figures are amazing. Plus you save yourself some time to build and color it. The bad thing is that these things are mostly meant for display cause they dont move too well.

Wow, that Comsic Region SF is detailed. The GFF and CR series figures are actually a little smaller than the HG 1/144 scale kits, but they have a lot more detail than the HG kits.

Oh, and by the way, the GFF and CR Mobile suits are rendered by Hajime Katoki. I like his designs a lot because they look more mechanical.

well the build is the same just the details are unique but they do that for most of their products if not all. I find their style pretty cool.
