So the long and short of it is that two reporters were threatened with jail time if they didn't reveal the sources they cited in naming an FBI agent who is married to a politician who has fallen out of favor with Bush and Co.
One is reportedly going to serve the jail time, saying reporters have the right to conceal their sources and that that has always been practiced by journalists and their informers when the info is sensitive.

Another came and and named Karl Rove, a huge brain behind almost everything George W. Bush says and does, as the source, saying he named the FBI operative.

Naming an FBI operative is a felony. Bush recently said he would fire anyone on his staff if they were "convicted of the crime" and an investigation is occurring now. Is there a cover-up going on?

Rove is named as leak

whatever happened to that new act that allowed teh us government to spy on citizens 'for matters of national security' whenever they damn well pleased? doesnt that give them the rite to make the reporter talk?

i was watching leno today, and there was some senetor on the show, and he was talking about how they had one reporter in jail even though he didnt write a word......which i think is stupid, cuz regardless of writing anyhting, ur still and accessory to a federal crime if u in anyway helped leak that information.

i say hang them both. they sold out an fbi operative just to discredit her husband.

thought it was a CIA operative? but anyway Rove is untouchable, he is basically the man who handpicked Bush for the Republican Party. Bush even said anyone who leaked her name would be fired, but it isnt going to happen. it pisses me off that the reporters are made to tell their sources, and get jail time if they dont, but this guy who leaked an operative's name isnt going to get shit.

From today's news:

Karl Rove and the Cheney aid in question, it has recently been found, may have also lied to an FBI investigation. Well, either they lied or didn't know what was actually going on, because their testimonies were later on refuted by other evidence.

And yesterday's NY Times reported that the 2 reporters jailed for "leaking the operative's identity" were also investigating whether Bush was correct or not about WMD in Iraq, particularly the claims he made back in 2002 about Saddam Hussein seeking weapons grade radioactive material in Africa. Then again, every reporter and their mother were trying to get a scoop on the lack of WMD in Iraq when this thing actually occurred, almost a full year ago now...
