Disgaea Anime

According to this brief article from Anime News Network (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/article.php?id=6917), it seems that an anime based off the great PS2 game Disgaea: Hour of Darkness is in the making! I for one am excited about this since Disgaea had a great cast of characters and an awesome storyline. Plus, I loved the game as a whole. Anybody else have thoughts about it?

i hope they keep the funny moments and stuff, but they have to make the serious portions even darker to make this in to something worthwile, if not it will end up being some kiddie shit

yeah .... disgaea was the shizznit.

I've already dumped some arbitrary amount of time greater than 250 hours into it. Every time I think I'm done, I take a break, play something else for a while, and then after a while end up bouncing back to it.

I fear the voice acting though. The game's japanese cast was good, but the english cast was IMPECCABLE. I really hope they can get the same voice cast for the anime, 'cause .... yeah, it'd be a shame not to.

About Disgaea: Hour of Darkness
The Netherworld - a place darker than a pitch-black cave, located deeper than the depths of the seas. It is a cursed land where evil reigns and foul beings dwell. Nobody knows its whereabouts, but everybody fears its existence...

The story takes place two years after the death of King Krichevskoy, the ruler of the Netherworld. His son Laharl slept for two whole years, unaware of his father's death, while demons fought for supremacy over the Netherworld. With the help of his vassal, Etna and her underlings, the egocentric, megalomaniac Prince Laharl fights his way to become the next overlord.

Character's designs looked loveable (if not too cute/wacky looking...), and the animation (promo wise) felt fluid and constant which was awesome...story...well, hard to say.

In all, looks quite interesting to watch...though, it's a 12 episodes series, I hope for a good-well rounded story (not too predictable...cliché game plots) to hold on...but if not (which is most likely...), at least it should bring along some great action and wacky moments to keep you "awake" during the run (not like Hack//Dusk) ...looking forward the 1st episode.

I have to say, I'm eager to see how the Defenders of Earth turn out.

I just finished watching it and I have to say it was...different. Those who are expecting the anime to follow the exact storyline of the game will be dissapointed as the first episode has shown it definitly won't. As far as the actual episode is concerned, it was alright. It had some funny parts and the characters are portrayed in the same light as they are in the game.

However, I would not suggest getting the episode from AnimeU as the subbing was pretty bad. The translations were awkward (to the point that they were guessing some lines), the font has to be one of the worst choices I've seen, and the quality of the video was subpar. They are bearable, but I hope the other groups who plan on subbing this do a better job.

As with stos I liked it, I kind of liked that it is different then the Game's storyline as now I can watch something different using the same charactors. I'm going to see a few more and see how I like it after that

From what I have seen the first episode was pretty good. Though it is very different from the game it isn't all that bad. I didn't really like the change in art style form Gordon, Jennifer ,and Thursday. Kinda annoying but I can deal with it. I really just can't wait for Mid-Boss (A.K.A. the Dark Adonis) to make his appearance. Hopefully the change in the storyline won't completely screw up this anime. All in all I like this anime and I'll keep watchin.

First episode was pretty good. It surprised me a lot how they changed the story, like introducing later characters at the beginning. Nonetheless, this series is something I'll most likely be continuing. Just hoping for another fansub to do this.

Episode 2 was just alright. It had a few good points, but was mainly poorly executed. This series probably should've stuck with the original story.
And a 3rd version for the first episode?? Guess they can't really be that reliable, eh?

I'm having mixed feelings about this anime.

Firstly, the fact that it's Disgaea, it already wins points.
Secondly, I'm sort of glad that it doesn't follow the game story verbatim, at least that leaves room for potential growth of the overall plot.
Thirdly, Flonne's an idiot at times, yes, but her screentime in the anime has thus far forced me to like her more than before. (Etna seems to be favored by the Japanese???)

The only qualms I have are the animation, the character designs for the Defenders of the Earth, and that they seemed to squeeze more of the game's jokes into the first ep. alone.

I didn't like ep 1 very much. I expected the anime to be even more humorous considering how important the comedy is to the Disgaea phenomenon. That, and I hate Flonne's guts beyonds words and was therefore hoping that she wouldn't be introduced already.

We'll see.

Just watched the first episode, and I think it'll be the last episode I'll watch for this series. Everything about it sucked. The portrayal of the characters was aweful, and so was the execution of the plot. They are just throwing crap scenes and pasting them together randomly. Saw the AnimeU version, and their effort for this series sucked ass.

Well, to a lot of the fans of the game, the anime has been a big dissapointment. I stopped watching after episode 3 as it didn't really look like it was progressing that well. I might finish watching it after someone completes it, to find out if it turns out well in the end. It's an alright anime if you look at it without a mindset of comparing it to the game, but as I said before, its a dissapointment for most.

Well I didn’t like it a first and I think that was because the first sub I saw was horrible and it’s been very different from the game. I do however like the fact that it looks like they might flesh out the story of Laharl and his Father but we are on episode 5 now and there hasn’t been much plot or anything for that matter but im still gonna hang in there for a bit.
