View Full Version : Ugly gundams

Is it just me or are these gundams so damn ugly.
I mean the collors, the mech itself is cool looking
but what is up with red blue and yellow all in one
and horrible combinations

I mean what is this show only for kids under 12?

Gundam related, thus moved to Gundam Seed Destiny forums.

don't mock gundam seed/destiny gundams, some of us may think that the gundams from ur favorite series r ugly too but we don't say anything

What the hell gundams are you talking about?

Indeed, what is he talking about...

I think most of the Gundams in SEED and Destiny look good.

I am guessing he talks about the colors of the main gundam.
I'm not sure how he relates the color combination of blue, red and white to children though.

I fail to see how a mix up of colors makes this a show for kids under 12. Besides, the colors seem fine to me. Freedom being my favorite i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif.

I wonder why the first gundam, the heros gundam, does have the red, yellow and blue colour scheme (Impulse (It does change i know but the primary colours are still there), Strike, Wing/Wing Zero, Gundam X all share the same colours) and why the baddys if you wanna call them that have better colours E.g Aegis/Justice, Duel/Buster, Chaos, Abyss, Gaia etc etc Only since id be cool to see something like Aegis as the Hero's Gundam...

Mite Gai
Sat, 07-02-2005, 09:03 AM
Maybe he is talking about Impulse which I never was a humongous fan of though I didn't hate it.

I don't know, I found the Impulse alright, when only in the first form, red with swords, everything else just looks weird for it.

Aegis/Justice is almost as much a lead gundam as Strike/Freedom is in SEED as both Kira and Athrun are main characters.

the reason that all gundams pretty much have the red blue yellow color scheme dates back to 1979 when the original mobile suit gundam aired. originally, the gundam was going to look like this (https://<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href=)">http://www.mahq.net/mecha/gundam/msv/rx-78-3.htm[/S</a> [&lt;---if that link doesnt work, its pretty much an all white gundam with a couple red details](with a few minor differences, sorry i couldnt find the real lineart for the proposed first iteration of gundam), but the color scheme was changed due to bandai's request for a more "toyetic" design. as an aside, "gundam" was almost called "gunboy", but the name was taken already, thankfully. oh also the original ookawara designs for gundam and zaku had a more 'knights armor' look to them, damn, i wish i could find that lineart!!!

Edit: actually back in the day bandai didnt have the lisense to gundam products yet, many companies made gundam merchandise including clover and popy among many, many, MANY others, thusly the blame for the decision to change the color scheme for gundam falls squarely on the shoulders of sunrise execs hehe

Seems like you know what you are talking about Astronopolis
Thats what i mean they (i mean ALL GUNDAMS) look like big toys
with all those outragous colors, i mean did these mech designers ever think of
nice metallic or two tone grey mechs or the colors used on the mechs in Z.O.E.
are also good.
These gundam colors just make it look like they had to sell the show to some hyper little kids.

yeah, pretty much all gundam color schemes are a nod to the original gundam of old, and its not that they're marketed to hyper little kids, thats just the way toys and stuff looked like back then, so its kind of like a fusion of old and new. besides, if everything was grey and mettalic, it really wouldnt be gundam, the outlandish colors and distinct look is what makes it gundam. if it were any other way, it'd be just another giant mecha show.

SEED and Destiny does have a lot of animation eyecandy, but if thats all u see in the show are shiny animation, and exploding things, then ur missing out

colours etc is just a minor thing, kinda like how the colour orange and red is suppose to make someone hungry,, u wouldnt buy a burger that tastes bad just cause of the orange and red wrapping,, so u shouldnt watch destiny just for the shiny bright colours ~

I am not watching it anymore cause of the colors.

and yea Astronopolis maybe only grey tones and metallic are boring and these colors are what make the gundam, gundam.

But if you know Z.O.E. or the second runner, there are many colors in there but they just look better, to me that is.

G-3 gundam was all gray i think ~ i say the head, like the horns, eyes make a gundam a gundam

i havent seen Z.O.E or second runner,, but dont tell me u only watched them cause of the colours

oh and *edit*

prolly almost all anime is geared towards kids under 12 etc watever,, it just depends wat the kid/viewer sees in the anime, some might see a decent story, others just big explosions, u can argue about both, but in the end show serves its purpose by entertaining people

and yes i totally agree with u that in the end the show serves it's purpose, by entertaining people and making the producers rich off of the merchandises

Ugliest Gundams ever were in G Gundam.
What the fuck man?
WINDMILL Gundam?
Bear?
A Boxer?
One Gundam for all of Africa dressed as a zebra?
Many crappy looking bird Gundams?
A French, baguette eating, rose throwing, women stealing, saber rattling, escargot loving, pansy dressing, Bastille burning, bourdeaux sipping, brie breathing, Louis XIV kneeling, Eifeel careening, Versailles blubbering, guilotine falling, Hunchback of Notre Dame quasimodoing, Tale of Two Cities reading FRENCH FUCKING FRENCH I HATE THE FUCKING FRENCH WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE FROM FRANCE!?!?!?

No seriously. I recommend everyone visit France once (if they have SARS or any other disease that can wipe out the population) in their lifetime.

They also founded Canada.... Which isn't bad. Cuz one day we are going to need wood, and we'll go clouting those French-descending pushovers up to the Baffin Bay and plunder their land as we please.
And don't give me that crap about they helped us in the Revolutionary War. They did that for themselves, to fuck w/ England, self serving their own interests...

Yeh, G-Gundam gundams were the worst

got that right..the designs were just atrocious
the only decent gundam was the burning gundam
it seemed like the creators of g gundam created the rest of the from the first thing that came through their mind.
good series though, despite that.
unlike wing gundam
great gundams but really crappy story

Wing had the the worst Gundams, other than Tallgeese.

Wing Zero/Wing Gundam had what, three shots and it was out of ammo?

Heavyarms... dont get me started on the ammo. Did it ever finish a fight without running out bullets? Somebody should have really thought that one through.

Sandrock had absolutely nothing going for it. At all. It had two crappy swords. Whoopdee do.

The dragon gundam (Altron/Nataku) had those broken launcher things, that never missed, and flame throwers. Flame throwers? Seriously, if a suit can withstand reentry, a flamethrower aint doing crap.

Deathscythe... I liked Deathscythe, but if you think about it, Forbidden is like Deathscythe, only better. In every way.

The best stuis in Wing were the Tallgeese, Mercurious and Veigheight (spelling) for their halfway thought out design, and the Virgo for being such a shielded heavy weapon carrying powerhouse.

Forget everything I just said if we are talking about Endless Waltz, those redone Gundams were da-shit. ESPECIALLY Talgeese III

I'd disagree on a few points, wing zero does not finish its ammo in 3 shots, that is because it can shoot half, quater or whatever non-full powered shots, hence those 3 full powered shots can be spread out to become many many shots that are still more than powerful enough to vapourise a few mobile suits. not to mention, one of those 3 shots can destroy an entire army.

Heavy arms , though it always seemed to run out of ammo, u have to agree that it had one of the highest number of kills and though it may seem improbable, its ammo costs is to number of kills is the best, becos its ammo is cheap and it can kill like mad.

I sort of agree with your unflattering descriptions of sandrock and altron, but i feel deathscythe is cooler and better than forbidden, especially the pilot. Deathscythe's scythe has a lot more cutting power than forbidden's, simply because it is a beam scythe, also, it moves faster, and specialises in sneak attacks and cloaking, unlike forbidden, which is a straight out brawler with a god-awful pilot.

I love tallgeese, and i have watched enless waltz, but i don't understand the meaning of your words "Forget everything I just said if we are talking about Endless Waltz, those redone Gundams were da-shit. ESPECIALLY Talgeese III"

yeah, i agree totally, g gundam has a nice storyline, but ridiculously crappy gundams, especially when i saw my native Singapore and my neighbour Malaysia represented by two strange looking buffoons with 2 gundams that looked like some thing that came out of a retarded 3 year old's imagination. Gundam wing? everybody will remember wing zero, and the other gundams, but nobody will ever bother with the story line(in fact, some episodes are so lousy, that they can simply be skipped.)

for the sake of comparing the gundams (not the story, just the gundams)
i still say heavyarms outdo calamity and buster- combined
it has that look that high artillery gundams should have.. buster is like a downsized heavyarms while the calamity is just too damn bulky and it has no missiles
i hate the forbidden
the idea of the shields is alright..but the close combat mode..its just ugly.. deathscythe hell custom..now that's worthy of carrying a scythe

Yay, deathscythe ROX. But I disagree on the buster thing and the calamity thing, firstly becos heavyarms custom had no beam weapons, its gatlings are ballistic. Meaning it would be useless in seed where ppl have phase shift armor. Buster is a long ranged artillery sniper while heavyarms is a walking demolition machine so they should not be compared as a downsized version. Calamity shoots missiles from its hand held bazooka thingy ( i hate it)
and death to forbidden. i agree, its fugly. Once again, up with Deathscythe hell.

PSJ
Sat, 07-09-2005, 03:57 AM
How can you say Deathscythe is cooler than Forbidden? How can you say the Deathscythe is better than Forbidden?

First of Deathscythe got like 1 weapon, Its scythe. Hell yea i'll go own these guys with my one beam weapon that for some weird reason works under water. While Forbidden got a beam that can bend, how cool is that? It's a beam that fucking bends. A scythe, awesome shields and railguns. I fail to see where Deathscythe is better or cooler than Forbidden.

As for the Heavyarms-Calamity thing. Yea wow Heavyarms got machineguns and missiles. Okey good enough to take down those sucky leo suits but against anything in SEED it got nothing. Calamity on the other hand got weapons everywhere it doesn't need to move just shoot.

Hell throw in a damaged Blitz gundam in Wing and it'll own everything.

I'll go ahead and compare Freedom to Wing Zero to. When did Wing zero move like Freedom? Wing zero got nothing on Freedom, i mean one buster rifle, yea try to hit Freedom with that, will never happen.

john_doe_107
Sat, 07-09-2005, 04:10 AM
wing zero has angel wings.. that's just so wicked man..
yeah sure freedom will kick wing zero's ass
but hell, for architecture, freedom can kiss wing zero's ass (if it had any)
i mean angel wings..WHO COULD HAVE THOUGHT OF THAT?

yeah..but can calamity do those moves the heavyarms in endless waltz?
that acrobatic thingy whatever you call it
besides..it had a clown face...that's so cool..
come to think of it, heavyarms can kick calamity and buster's butt.

You all seem to have put aside the fact that Wing was made about 10 years before SEED, and thus the technilogical abilities imagined were obviously going to be less for Wing. Phase Shift armor is well, i don't even know what exactly it is but I can't imagine it ever being employed in every unit. Beam weapons are cooler, agreed, and obviously the Seed gundams have better defense and niftier stuff because the creators could work off of existing Gundam models and improve them (Forbidden - off deathscythe, Buster - off Heavyarms, Duel - off Tallgeese?)

Also, remember that Gundam Wing suits were designed to destroy military instilations and took place in a world without crazy carriers and without high-fire powered motherships and whatnot like Minerva.

So just remember and think about all the time they had to go back and change the original models from Wing or wherever they're from (Goufs, Zakus, those Cancer like underwater units, Djinns of Aries)
Naturally the newly thought up suits will be able to take down ones from older series, because they were designed with the flaws and knowledge from the older ones being kept in mind.
But that is assumming the newer pilots are also better than the old ones. But of course the new ones are Coordinators and have SEEDs and all this crazy whatnot that simply could not be imagined back when Gundam Wing or anything was being made. "Kira would own Amuro because he has a SEED!" And because gene manipulation and stem cell shit was so around in the 70's...

just remember the differences in context and time period and the changes in technology between series when discussing shit like this

The thing with G Gundam is that you shouldn't take it so seriously. Nobody intended to make "cool" gundams. They were doing stereotypes of the respective countries (quite hilarious stereotypes too). The only one I didn't understand was Allenby's sailor moon-ish gundam. I mean, she's a fucking swede. We don't have goddamn girls with miniskirts and long hair here, she should have piloted the MEATBALL GUNDAM!!!! Imagine that, a big damn round meatball owning everything.

Great show.

haha, i thought g-gundam was riduculous (in the funniest way possible) with barely any weapon owning, it was pretty much people fighting except they had a huge metal robot armor outside. And the whole "SHINNING FINGER!" thing was hillarious (never did see all these episodes) and terra, your right with the sterotypes of the countires being damn funny (i dont remember the swede one) i forgot which country but the 1 that had a rose for every kind of weapon was the funniest, it had roses that functioned the same way as the DRAGOONS do in Seed.
