It's been bugging me for a while now..

In Ghost in the Shell: Stand alone complex, from the beginning.. the openeing.. It's all 3d renedered it seems.. I was just wondering.. if this came.. from.. something else than the.. anime series.. or.. if they simply had that done specially for the intro.

Anyone know?

Yeah, that's not from the in-episode anime. That sort of sequence takes days or weeks for a team to choreograph and render out, and doesn't lend itself well to things like subtle movements and expressions that normal animation methods excel at.

It's not common, but it's not unheard-of to have different animation in the op/ed than in the episode itself either.

For a whole different kind of the same thing, check out the ending of an episode of 2x2=shinobuden, or Futakoi Alternative.

Funny thing is, if you watched when Stand Alone Complex started, the intro was different for the first few eps. It was a montage of some of the scenes that were going to happen in the first several eps. Pretty nice looking actually. They changed it now, and especially before it aired on Adult Swim, but if you watched the series when it was first airing in Japan, you'd see the original opening. <--- Nerdy fact that isn't relavant to your question but still relevant to the subject matter of your question.
