Still FFX:

I just beat Seymour for the first time (the battle where he has 2 guards and summons that big monster thingy which casts "Pain"). That guy needs a haircut. I'm glad the cloister sphere puzzles are so short because it's annoying to run around i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif

Seymore is one of the coolest villains ever, mostly because I like his voice so much. Aenima is by far the awesomest aeon.

I'm still playing RE4. Just one level left until I have the handcannon.

Okay, so for the first time ever I'm playing Vandal Hearts, and while I'm still pretty early in it (juggling finals, final papers and all that jazz) I must say that this game fucking rocks! Love a good story!

Dragon Quest VIII.

That game is so addicting. I was a little turned off by Akira Toryami's designs at first, but after I broke down and bought it (my first DQ game by the way) I liked the design a lot. The characters are good, all of them have various British accents and are done really well. Even the monsters have a little character. The squids for instance, doddle in the sand sometimes instead of attacking and have serious ADD.

At times though, the game is HARD. If you're not careful, you can get killed by a random enemy encounter. You need to keep far enough ahead or pay attention every battle. The low HP's on your characters is what makes it a challenge though. It makes some of the Final Fantasy's look like a joke, except for 4 (jap version or Chronicles), same sort of difficulty. The music is amazing too.

EDIT: By the way FFXII (demo inlcuded) isn't finalized so be aware of that, but the demo plays like crap. The characters are basically indistinct in the way they fight, they all seem to have similar strength attacks and the same magic spells, and it plays like a MMO. You need to wait for the ATB gauge to charge AFTER you already selected your attack, thus cancelling it if you change your mind. If I wanted to play an MMO, I would play a real one.

I wouldn't waste your money on FFXII if it doesn't change, buy DQVIII instead.

Terracosmo
Thu, 12-01-2005, 02:06 PM
The FFXII demo is just an exhibition, and is nothing like what the actual game will be in terms of abilities and etc. Also, it's not like you buy a FF for it's battle system.

I like Akira's Dragon Quest illustrations, mostly because they remind me of Chrono Trigger (his finest work within video game art IMO).

Ryllharu
Thu, 12-01-2005, 04:09 PM
I did say it was a demo, so at least some changes would be expected, but I'm really not seeing a whole lot to like in the demo. It's just what I thought since I hate the idea of it playing like an MMO with a storyline. The battle system is what you're going to be interacting with most of the time in any RPG (excepting Xenosagas, so many cutscenes....) The game is going to sell huge anyway, just because of the FF Tactics charm (not quite the same, but that didn't stop people from buying Tactics Advance either).

I'm just starting to think the Final Fantasy franchise is starting to lose its charm even to some of the fans. (I'm not the only person who hated FFIX and thought XI was a bad idea).

Thanks for reminding me of Chrono Trigger, now I'm gonna have to go replay that for the 80th time, maybe this time I'll save Schala from the rampaging Mammon Machine and Lavos.

Terracosmo
Thu, 12-01-2005, 04:21 PM
Yeah the FF series is definitely losing it's charm amongst the hardcore fans, but on the other hand it keeps winning new ground as the most famous RPG series currently running.
So I reckon Square won't have to worry too much...

Save Schala? :S I've beaten it a million times (or so i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif) and I don't recall anything about her possibly being "not saved" :S

FFX spoilers and stuff

I think I'm nearing the end of FFX now. I recently finished the puzzle in the Zanarkand Dome and I'm fighting this boss with lots of pads around him which I need to move around. I hate that the bosses are so fucking hard in this game, I have to run around and level up which is annoying when I want to see what happens next very badly i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif

My evaluation so far is that this game isn't quite up to par with FF6 or 7, but I must stress something about this game which is absolutely mindblowing, a particular scene. And I'm sure all you FFX fans have seen the scene a million times and you are probably thinking "God, that Terra is sooooo slow" but I still just have to say how AWESOME Tidus & Yuna's moment under the water was. Partly because I love the song "Suteki da Ne" so much, but also because it felt so... you know, right. Their romance had been brewing for a long time and you just knew it was gonna happen eventually. Yuna was crying, and I was sitting in front of the TV practically screaming "DAMNIT EMBRACE HER, TIDUS!" and then they started kissing, the song kicked in and they dived under water. Awesome stuff. One of the best VG scenes I've seen in years.

FFX-2 is one of the worst games I have ever played. I can take alot and I always finish games that I buy. But this was just too damn horrible that I couldn't even muster the strenght to go all the way. There is just one other game that I have bought and not finished, Saga Frontier 2, that should say something about the level of FFX-2.

ffx-2 was the biggest mistake, the story from the first one was way better and it should've ended there. the dress system i found weird, the style and story of this one is something i can't bear either. good things seem to have bad sequels nowadays.

While you're at it, let's go and try to resurrect Aeris too.

Edit: I'm playing FF7 on the PC. I should say replaying. Goddamn it's a kick ass game.

And as for FFX... It's possibly the worst FF I have played. (I've never played FFX2, so hah!) The plot was really mediocre. The fucking voice overs were horrible. Yuna sounded like a robot, and Tidus sounded like a fucking prepubescent boy. The game was completely LINEAR. You can only go backwards or forwards in every zone. The airship was completely dissapointing. I couldn't wait to fly around the world, but all you get is a crappy map. Blitzball is a shitty game. It's ridiculously hard at the beginning, but becomes ridiculously easy at the end... I also didn't like the leveling system worked in the game. The concept was good, but the execution was poor. One of the huge flaws in it was the ability to gain 40 or so levels at once.. Also the fact that if you wanted to have "perfect stats" you had to actually go back and delete some of the stat gains you had before, and replace it with a better version of it.

The only good thing about the game was the monster collecting. And the crazy bosses you had to fight with the monster collecting.

Currently, I am replaying FF Tactics Xenogears, and FF7, though tactics gets the bulk of my time. The worst FF game ever made was FF9, that game sucked so bad, I destroyed the cds with a little help from a hole in the ground, gasoline, and a match.

Having played all the FF games since VI (with the exception of XI), I'd have to say IX was my least favourite due to the story. The story is one of the most important aspect of any FF game, and that's the reason why FFX is my favourite. FFX2 was good too in my opinion. I logged over 99 hours for both games, and thoroughly enjoyed both experiences.

Terra's FFX quest part 5:

God DAMNIT. I just read that in order to get Anima I have to beat that fucking Dark Valefor since I forgot to use the destruction sphere thingies back in Besaid. That pisses me off, I don't really feel like power leveling and getting a bunch of super weapons just to find out more about the story. i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif Other than that I have the last boss just in front of me so I'm about to beat the game.

Can anyone tell me roughly what happens in the cutscene when you get Anima? I heard that you find out more about Seymour's past. That's really the only reason I want to get the damn thing :/

Terra, this is the International version your playing, yes?

And if so, DAMN! I want that version if only for the sake of the extra bosses!

Oh yes, does anyone knows what happens at the end of the "Last Mission" mode of the X-2 International version?

Before you get Anima, Yuna and everyone talk to the fayth of it. And the fayth of Anima is Seymour's mother. I don't remember much of the details but I do know that Seymour's mother told him that she became a fayth just so he can have power. And when he recieved his mother's power, he became power hungry. He wanted more and became unstoppable in his quest to achieve it. So she requests Yuna and the rest of the party to put a stop to Seymour's plans, even if they have to use Seymour's mother against him. Naturally, they agree so Seymour's mother becomes Anima for Yuna.

@badandscalpel: Yeah, the international one (I'm a swede). I don't know why someone would willingly want to fight 8 hidden overpowered annoying piece of shit versions of the aeons though... (even worse when they fucking block stuff which you forgot to get the first time you were at the given location...)

Thanks NM. I was already pretty sure that Anima was Seymour's mother (judging from the short cutscene in the Zanarkand ruins). Now that I know that I can beat the game and be on my merry way towards my 5th Final Fantasy 7 replay. i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif

Edit: So I finally beat the game. Man, what an ending. WHAT AN ENDING. I almost cried, it was so sad i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif but yet beautiful. One of the best endings I've ever seen, in fact.

Hard is much funnier than the other modes, because all chars start at level 1 (so easy otherwise) and you can get all characters ^_^

Just finished God of War. And my final impression is, best (action/adventure) game ever. I recommend everyone to play this game. It has the best control/combat system I have ever seen in a game. The grapics are amazing, settings and characters. The sound is awesome, with truly epic music and sound-effects. The plot is actually good for the first time in this kind of game and the voice-acting is bearable. The best thing about the game though is that it feels so interactive. Even when you just open a door it actually feels like you are doing it. A really cool thing is that there are only three bosses in the game. This is very unusual for this sort of game but the pull it of. Instead of having alot of generic "stronger" enemies as bosses, they actually put some time in to creating them.

Tried out Matrix: Path of Neo and Ultimate Spider-man for the PS2. Both are disappointments, really. I'd prefer Enter the Matrix over this one anyday. The frame rate really kills any enjoyment you can get while running around using Neo. As for Ultimate Spider-man they've simplied the swinging system too much and you don't get the kick from swinging around the city any more. i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif

Prince of Persia 3: The Two Thrones. Awesome game, maybe the best platform/action/adventure game ever. It has one of the most tought out level designs I have ever experienced. The only negative thing about the game was the combat system, unless you do a speed kill the controls are really sluggish. But since you do speed kills most of the time this is just a issue with some of the bosses.

Gahh, you prefer Enter the Matrix over Path of Neo? I havent played Path of Neo but man...Enter The Matrix was the worst movie game I ever played. The controls were awkward and the combat wasn't the best either. The only thing I liked about it was the slow motion, and how the bullets would show when their fired from the enemy's guns. Other than that, everything else about Enter The Matrix sucked. Ultimate Spiderman I kinda liked. I loved the comic book feel they gave to the game and being able to play as Venom = <3. Though the swinging sysem did become easier like you said, that was the best part about Spiderman 2. Combat didn't improve from the previous Spiderman games either. And it was too short.

Hell no to the best game part or the level design or my take on the combat system? In any case, none of these things are affected by how long or short the game. I'd much rather play a short intense and tight game than a long mediocre one.

The bosses in MGS:2 on extreme are a nightmare. But you get the best feeling when you finish them. The Rays are like the hardest boss ever. I think you have to destroy like 20 of them before it ends.

MGS1 was fun as hell haha, the story and bosses were more creative and better than mgs 2 and 3 in my opinion.

Case in point .. fighting psycho mantis was hillarious and challenge (extreme mode + mgs = unbelievable cheapness in terms that bosses go berserk on your pitiful little life bar). Vulcan raven was the beast. I didnt play twin snakes thouhg .. what did they change other than some cutscnes?

MGS3 is very nice game .. only problem is once you beat it once or twice.. you really dont wanna beat it again, but its stilla good game going throuhg, the visuals are amaaaaaazing omg including the final boss >< its like .. wow .... pretty.

I recently started playing Morrowing GOTY edition for xbox. I never knew an rpg of this type could be so fun. I been playing it for about 12-20hrs and have only been to 4towns I believe. According to the world map that came with it I've only explored about 5% of the world if that. I've finally earned 1000 gold so I'm now looking to buy a good long sword i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif.

Just started a human-only game of FF Tactics Advance. It sucked that they made Red Made vierra only, but the Blue Mage is cooler anyways.
Also playing Fable: The Lost Chapters and Devil May Cry 3

I should also add that if you are looking for a good RPG, the "Lufia" series is a brilliant choice, not too well known, but great. Lufia II for the SNES was fantastic.

Amen, amen, amen.

I played this game on an emulator and it totally blew me away. I'd never even heard of it before but it was absolutely KICKASS! How this game doesn't have more of a following, or any sequels, is beyond my comprehension! The one thing I could never figure out was how to Evolve my Capsule monster. I had the same damn Fluffy throughout the entire game, and he would just get reamed in boss battles. Oh, that was another thing. The bosses in this game could be HARD as HELL! That and the puzzles had me tearing my hair out at points.

Ah, the glory days of difficulty RPGs... before they became watered down for stupid 12-year olds...

playing now: Flyff, the online RPG that UltraDarkRed mentioned. It actually is pretty enjoyable, but because it is free the servers suffer from massive lag attacks and some of the newbies are annoying beyond belief...

anphorus
Mon, 01-30-2006, 07:52 AM
Yeah some of the capsule monsters are good, but some are just pants. The fire one ran away two attacks into every battle I was in. I loved the puzzles in the game, though some of them were mind naumbingly difficult.

Anyways, I'm just posting to say that there is (I think) two GBA sequels to the Lufia games on the SNES. Not to mention that the original Lufia is technically a sequel to Lufia II

I finally got a control pad for my PC, so now I've been playing through my non-rpg Zsnes games, and god, it's soo much better, It's kind of hard to pull off a charging+dashing jump in MMX without using the keyboead though.

Before I thought Super-Puch out was near impossible, now it's just very very hard.

KoKo37
Mon, 01-30-2006, 04:49 PM
for a tip if you use a keyboard for MMX, make dash and jump the same key it makes it a lot easier i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif.

Oh no I can do it with the keyboard just fine and dandy, it's just kind of difficult to pull of with the joypad since I've never used one for MMX before. Also, wouldn't that be horribly impractical in many other situations?

err whoops my bad misread your first post, thought you said it was hard to dash n jump using the keyboard i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif. Anyways I dont really find a downflaw using that, it just makes your jump faster and go a further distance. Also works well on megaman zero for me.

Ah, yes, the good ol' dash+jump+charging combo. With the keyboard, it was like a dream come true, haha. But then again, you could do the same on the controller (although more difficult). Just make the dash one of the L or R buttons and there you go.

As for the new current game I'm playing, it's Zone of the Enders: The Fist of Mars. Just think of it as the English version of Super Robot Wars. Such an awesome game.

That's what I've been doing, it was difficult at first though I now have the hang of it.

I just played Street Fighter 2 turbo today with my new pad, and HELL, is the Shouryuken difficult to perform. So is the hadoken with the strongest punch, because the havy punch button is the shoulder key above the joypad.

While I'm recommending RPG's Tales of Phantasia (one of the prequels to Symphonia) is fan-TASTIC, although you need to emulate, as it was never released in english (kind of like Seiken Densetsu 3). I also just watched a certain movie the other day and it reminded me where I saw the time travel sequence from again: Flight of the navigator. Great film.

I wish Final fantasy Tactics had been released here, i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif If anyone knows of any way to get it without buying the american version I'm all ears. (Well eyes, this is the internet.)

Different results happen depending on the party members you use.
Cid in any party produces one result.
Cid not in party but other named chars cause a different one.
No named party members(basically, bought soldiers) and ramza produces a 3rd.
Have fun!
Mostly, its just what happens to Delita, but its tech a different ending.

Ryllharu
Fri, 02-17-2006, 07:15 AM
FF9 is total garbage. It was then I knew that the series was starting to die. If you want to play an homage to the older titles, just play the actual games or the ones in Chronicles or Anthology. God I hate that game. Characters lame and cliche, villains lame, story lame, skill system terrible (I can't believe they ported it to tactics advance, thus ruining that game), and the game isn't even that fun to play.

I'm playing Dragon Quest VIII. DQ is a real throwback to old rpgs. When you're halfway through the game and you still have only about 250 health, you know you're playing a classic. And of course the monsters can do pretty much the exact same damage as you can (about 35-45 when you have 250 health), which was I always thought was weird about the FF titles not doing.

(As for FF12, the demo is preliminary, and super beta, but if I wanted to play a MMO-like game, I'd play an actually MMO. I did not like it in the slightest.)

I'm also playing Shadow of the Colossus. I've killed 7 or 8, that game...you really have to play to believe. The sense of scale is just completely amazing, and the Colossi get even more satisfying to kill as you go along. Some people complain about a lack of other things to do in the game, but as far as I'm concerned, it's perfect. Would a hero really be wasting his time doing other things when he's trying to save her by killing things? Challenging without being impossible (until I get to the last one, so I hear). Wow is the only word to describe it really.

We (well, more technically, one of my housemates) just recently got some original super nintendo controllers, so it's been SNES emulator games for the past week. We got through Super Mario World quite quickly, and now we're playing 3 player Secret of Mana. It's amazing how quickly that game comes back to me. I still remember all the plotline and short cuts. I love that game so much. We just defeated the wall boss in Pandora yesterday, and got random treasure from the king! Yay treasure! We're invincible!

3-PLAYER SECRET OF MANA!!!!

That is so fucking awesome!!!
I love that game to death, I actually have the original cart and let me tell you that's not a small feat in Sweden (where games such as that are incredibly obscure). MEMORIES!

Be sure to play Seiken Densetsu 3 afterwards. One of the best games I've ever played and the class system makes it even more diverse than Secret of Mana.

Legend of Mana blows goatballs. But actually Seiken Densetsu 3, which I mentioned, is also a sequel to Secret of Mana and is the one that came before Legend of Mana (which would be Seiken Densetsu 4, Secret of Mana being Seiken Densetsu 2).

So long story short, yeah, Legend of Mana and the games following it suck ass. Which is a shame, because SD2 & 3 are both brilliant.

Also, the intro in Legend of Mana is actually in swedish. Imagine my reaction when I played that game and heard a swedish voice open it up. I damn near almost fainted.

I just spent 70 hours over the last 9 days or so playing through Dragon Quest 8. The game's been mentioned here before, but I think it deserves more attention than it's gotten, so I'm going to give it some!

This game is a masterpiece -- one of the best, if not THE best rpg to land in the console realm since the PS2 came into existence.

The storyline is pretty predictable (as you'd expect from a DQ game), but the game handles it very well -- developing the main characters and several peripheral ones, as well as giving the villains some degree of depth (while still leaving him as a twisted caricature of a person). The plot remains focused, not entangling itself too heavily with any one thing, but not feeling like it's glossing over relevant parts either. And pacing is very consistent, and I'd say generally very good.

The game's world feels very, very large (it's a good 10 or 15 minute walk, avoiding battles and following the roads, to get from one city to another), but still remains navigable thanks to handy warp items and spells that you get fairly early on (and later "vehicles" of various types). So, epic size (ie: lots of freedom), but not so incredibly large as to make it too easy to get lost.

There's a good balance of character customizability, falling somewhere between the early locked in roles of FFX's sphere grid and the complete lack of character skillset differentiation in FF7. All characters have very specific strengths and weaknesses, and the weapon skill system is nice in that it lets you develop your characters to play a little differently and use different skills, while still keeping them very distinct.

Gameplay mechanics are powerlevel-friendly (there's a skill to immediately enter call a random battle, and there's some monsters that are just massive experience mines, that regularly show up in certain areas), but not game-breakingly so. You could beat the game with your level in the lower-mid 30's with a reasonable degree of challenge, or you could level moderately and take it at 45 like I did, or you could powerlevel for a hours and take it at level 60, and the final boss fight still wouldn't be stupidly easy. The random encounter rate is a little high (partly because the world is so big), but it's easy to adjust it down with an ability the hero learns fairly early, or with fairly inexpensive items -- so if you really want to just get to the next plot point or the next town, you can fire off one of those and go about your business largely unmolested. There's even an ability "intimidate" that you can use to scare weaker monsters off, which is kind of funny.

Probably the single strongest point of this game is the art, both visual and audio. Character (and some monster) designs by Akira Toriyama, with a beautifully immersive world (another thing it's got over FFX and many others: completely free camera control). The art style is tastefully cel-shaded 3d models. Other cel-shaded 3d games (windwaker, for example) generally feel a bit too cartoony, but DQ brings a very slick, vibrant anime feel, which just suits it incredibly well. It doesn't have the same sort of kiddie look that people associate with cel shading.

But the video isn't the only strong point. The music is incredibly well-composed, and after a couple hours I found myself humming along to the overworld theme. It's well-suited environmental music, which really captures the essence of the game very nicely.

The other side of the audio -- the voice acting and sound effects -- are also great. While the combat sound effects are a bit traditional, the voice acting is the most perfectly well-suited I could picture for the game. Unlike a lot of other games that have made it across the pacific, there's not a single time that the voice acting broke me out of the moment. It just really felt natural, with every voice sounding completely natural for the character that it was matched to. Nobody's caught out of character, there's no unnatural hitches as people try to synch lips to the Japanese track (partly because there was no Japanese track to synch to, and partly because

My only real complaint is that saving is more of a chore than I'm used to -- but that's offset by the fact that when you die, you just revive at the last save point, missing half your gold. You don't even lose items or anything, and about halfway through the game you get access to a "gold bank" that you can deposit your spare change in to keep it safe from the effects of accidental death.

Overall, this game is really excellent, and a fine example of an exceedingly well-done rpg. If you like the non-mmorpg console rpg genre at all, I would say that it's definitely a must-play game.

NOPE!

Seiken Densetsu 1 has -nothing- to do with Secret of Evermore, which is just an attempt by the american department of Square to mimic Secret of Mana.

SD1 is in fact known in english as Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, released for the SNES.
It is not a very good game, however, and feels more like a Final Fantasy game than a Mana one.. hence the english title.

Dreamfall: The Longest Journey - I thought about picking this one up since its been getting really good reviews and the first one was acclaimed so highly. I'm really enjoying it so far. Its really easy to like the characters of the story, I found myself attached to them in well under a half hour. Its hard not to sympathsize with the main character Zoë, her attitude and demeanor are hard not to like.

also playing SiN Episodes: Emergence. Downloaded it off Steam, and I also found the original game interesting. I really like the way the game plays though. It gets HARD. The AI changes all of the dynamics on you constantly. You can read all about it, but actually seeing it happen makes the difference. The better you do, the harder the game gets. The more headshots you make, suddenly the enemies start dodging and getting helmets. The faster and more efficiently you take them down, the next group has better weapons, and there are more of them. When a section gets too hard, the game throttles it back a little. Its amazing. There is a constant level of challenge.

Also, I like the realism of the game. Most enemies take two or three shots before they go down (or one to the head). You can only take 4-10 shots, depending on what you get hit with. You've got grenades and toss them around, but the enemies have them too, and use them. Effectively too. I've gotten taken down about 5 times by grenade.

Hitman: Blood Money

Okay, I'm actually going to write something here as this is easily one of the best games I've ever played and it deserves all the attention it can get. Yes, seriously!

After only having done the first real hit ( the one in Chile ) I am already in love with this game. It is smooth, slick, stylish and utterly fabulous in every sense of the world. There was just so much content, so many options, so much fucking pure GODLINESS in that one level... that I dare not imagine what the rest of the game will look like.

Oh, and Jesper Kyd's soundtrack is just pure ecstasy for your ears. Rarely have I had the pleasure of hearing such a well-composed soundtrack.

It is easily the best game in the series so far, and one of the best stealth-based shooters ever to come into existence. Hell, Agent 47 has almost taken Snakes place as my favorite, if that tells you anything. It just oozes with style and being an assassin has never been this sexy.

Never, I say!

I spent an unhealthy amount of time in front of RM2K in my heyday, but I never got around to learn how to program my own battle system. I just sort of came to the conclusion that it wasn't worth the trouble. How many RM2K games can you mention which have an original battle system and actually was completed? Exactly. All that time just isn't worth it.

Instead, you can tweak the default battle system into looking cooler by putting your character sprites as parts of the battle animations. That will make it look like they are on screen and attacking. Awesome.

Edit: I had forgotten how unbelievably fucking frustrating the Soul Calibur games are. SC3 is so hard that it makes me scream over and over. WHY WON'T THE GODDAMN GUARD IMPACT WORK "¤)¤(")("¤=)(¤093820194822424124124!!111

How do you do that? Does it require a lot of work? I'm currently working on a game (and have been for about 2 years), but I couldn't figure out how to mess with the battle system. I agree that spending too much time making changes to the game's engine probably isn't worth it, but if it's relatively simple, I might consider it.

A Blurred line is all kinds of awesome. Wasn't there supposed to be a sequel?
Yeah, it was apparently called "Line's End" but I haven't heard anything about it. I don't mind for the moment though, because I haven't finished ABL yet (I'm stuck as Dalia in that medieval simulation room).

Edit: @Complich8, finally someone who agrees that Guitar Hero is pure awesome. Everyone I've heard from says "it's useless, just learn to play the guitar for real." I just wish the game had more of my favorite music on it. Here's hoping for that in Guitar Hero 2.

Xan, basically, you have all these battle animations which you use to form the attacks the characters can perform. You can see that easily by opening the database. What you need to is to create your own animations. For that, you'll need a program which can handle those small files with their bmp format or whatever it is. I recommend IDraw, if it's still around. I used that anyway. Now all you need to do is open a character sheet and copy/paste the characters into the animation and now you can use your character sprites as part of the animation you are working on.

It's really a lot easier than it sounds.

XanBcoo
Tue, 05-30-2006, 04:22 PM

Not to take away anything from Chrono Trigger, but I've played both a few times (Trigger just about 10 or so times) but I've still not done everything there is to do in ff6, and it's been awhile since I played it

Well, I fell victim to World of Warcraft, so that game has been eating up a lot of my free time. I got a level 38 Troll hunter in 2 weeks (I've had my bro call me crazy because of that).
As for the side dish, I'm also playing Suikoden Tactics for the PS2. It's a pretty good alternative to FF Tactics.

Up until recently I've been playing Warcraft III TFT or Guild Wars, but for the past few weeks I've been playing NetHack (http://www.nethack.org/), which old enough that Warcraft III RoC was released a few years after it was.

On FFIX: I didn't really take Vivi to be the star of the show... the other characters were good too. I liked the story alot too. I wouldn't say the characters were deformed or the graphics simplistic, I thought they were really nice. The movie scenes were awesome, and when I first saw them on my PSX it really blew me away. Made me realise why the N64 lost that round of the console wars.

Speaking of N64, Super Mario 64 was an awesome game... amazing seeing how it was the first title and all. That and Lylat Wars (Star Fox 64)... never understood why people knocked this game so much.... I months of fun playing in multiplayer mode, if not years.

Finished replaying Xenogears for ps, I'll probably start playing The Legend of Zelda : Mojaros mask or whatever it was called.

I never played any of those 2D FF games, I'll probably also try out FF6.

I never thought Vivi to be the star (but I complained a lot about that!), the story was needless to say much more focused on the hero, Zidane, and his lady, Garnet. In, fact, to quote an old friend's comments, most FMV were too focused on Garnet.

To quote a game-critic, more or less, "The story's good, but I wanted to see some FMVs that weren't focused on Garnet's butt."

But yeah, I loved that game. Very touching.

And don't get me started on Ocarina of Time... Gods, now that's the game that really got me into videogames. Recently I've been wanting to play it again - my European History professor was explaining how castle-towns closed at sunset and I immediately thought of Ocarina of Time's drawbridge closing. What a great, great, great game that was - now if only Twilight Princess could equal it, or even better, raise the bar...

I used to play Lineage II and Everquest, but since college started I just can't sit down and play online. Takes too much time... so as much as I want to try Warcraft, it'll have to wait for, eh, maybe four years.

Have any of you guys played The Legend of Zelda : Majora's Mask? How would you compare it to Orcarina of Time?

personally enjoyed almost every second of Orcarina of time, Just played the first 20 minutes of Majora's Mask, Doesn't seem bad, I don't mind the graphics for it remind me of Orcarina of Time, and its looks so funny.

Anyway, Back to Majoras Mask.

Mmm, definitely Dark Cloud2; I vouch for the game that I spent 152+ hours playing.

Just finished Dragon Quest VIII; feels as though I've got a huge hole to fill... Though, I'm still in the process of filling the hole left by FFVI inflicted onto me over 7 years ago.

Can anyone tell me how Atelier Iris 2 stands up to its predecessor in title?

I really liked Majora's Mask, though it never seemed like a complete Zelda game to me on its own. I think of it as a Ocarina of Time 1.5. It just didn't impact me enough, even though me and a friend spent AGES getting every single mask and every heart peice. I also love replaying every boss battle in that game (Twinmold being my favorite). I thought the 3-day thing would be annoying, but it gives the game the depth and strategy I remember it for.

I didn't like it that much. It didn't have the classic Zelda feel. Try to get Helix Link. Thats the only fun part because you can pwn at the end.
